Thank you Jane. You always have the precise words I was looking for. It's wonderful being home again.

One Week Left On This Side of the Pond

Jane Austen Internship Update

These past couple weeks at the Centre have been wonderful. I've had some great projects, like writing a letter as Jane Austen to a group of students who wrote to the Centre, authenticating a Georgian dress that was donated to the exhibition and then researching and writing a new information board on modern film adaptations. I'm also almost done with my final internship dissertation and yesterday I was also given the wonderful task of contacting a certain actor (From the BBC Sense and Sensibility and Downtown Abbey fame!) to add something to our collection of autographs and letters from actors involved in Jane Austen film adaptations. It has been a wonderful couple of weeks and I'm very sorry to have to leave such a wonderful place.

Stratford-Upon-Avon

This past week I visited Shakespeare's birthplace with the program, visiting a few of the cottages associated with him and his family and also seeing three Royal Shakespeare Company performances. We saw Comedy of Errors, Twelfth Night and Richard III. All of the performances were wonderful and although Twelfth Night has always been one of my favorite plays, Richard III stole the show for me. We also visited Kenilworth Castle as a day trip.

  • Shakespeare's Birthplace
  • Shakespeare's Grave
  • Anne Hathaway's Cottage
  • The Stratford Theatre
  • Kenilworth Castle

Scotland

Scotland is one of the most beautiful places I've ever been and Michelle, Alex and I had a wonderful weekend. We explored Edinburgh on Friday and Sunday and on Saturday we took a tour of the Scottish West Highland. I also tried classic Scottish dishes like "haggis, neeps and tatties"(potatoes and turnips) honeycomb ice cream and of course Scottish Whisky.

  • Edinburgh Castle
  • The Elephant House (where JK Rowling wrote Harry Potter!)
  • Stirling Castle
  • Doune Castle
  • Loch (Lake) Lunbaig
  • Kilchurn Castle
  • Inverary Castle
  • Loch Lomond
  • Rest and Be Thankful Pass
  • The Village of Luss

The Dorset Coast

I missed the hike a few weeks ago along the Dorset Coast but it's so beautiful I still had to share a picture. It's a few hours away from Bath. They specifically call this part of the coast, Jurassic Coast. You can see why.
